The Institute is the product of the enlightened leadership of Abu Dhabi, stemming from the inspired vision of His Highness, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the late President of the UAE.
Thanks to his legacy of recognizing the need to preserve the environment and the importance of developing the human resources of the UAE, the current leadership has made a substantial commitment to build the nation into one of the key knowledge economies in the world.
Scholarship / Fellowship
Two types of scholarship/fellowship are available:
1. MASDAR Institute Fellowship Program (for UAE nationals only to study overseas)
This is open only to UAE nationals who will be placed at one of the Masdar Research partners to earn their Masters and/or PhD degrees. The partners include:
Upon graduation, each scholar will be given the opportunity to work at the Masdar Institute of Science and Technology founded through a cooperative agreement with the world renowned Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Graduates of this fellowship program will also have the option to work with one of Masdar’s partners or ventures, to further develop and apply the scientific knowledge gained.
Current research tracks include: solar energy (photovoltaic and thermal); water technologies; carbon capture and storage; biofuels; energy storage; and energy efficiency.

The Fellowships will be competitively awarded according to academic excellence, independent intellectual contribution and commitment to purpose. Each Fellowship will cover educational and living expenses, in additional to a pre-set salary and foreign living allowance.

2. MASDAR Institute Graduate Scholarship (for all nationalities to study at Masdar Institute in Abu Dhabi)
Full scholarship is available to qualified talented students who meet its high admission standards which include appropriate TOEFL score, GRE and an excellent CGPA from a recognized university. A minimum CGPA of 3.0 (on a 4 point scale) or 2:1 in the British system, minimum TOEFL score of 577 (91 on the IBT) or academic IELTS (min 6.5), and a minimum GRE quantitative score of 700 are the basic requirements without which an applicant will most likely not be considered.
Students accepted into the Masdar Institute will be offered a full scholarship which includes the following:
The scholarship and benefits are subject to the student maintaining a minimum CGPA as determined by Masdar Institute of Science and Technology and satisfactory progress on their research.
