Postdoctoral Research Associate

This is a full-time (one-year), Professional Support with an anticipated start date of October 15, 2009. Appointment is contingent upon external funding approval.

The Center for Energy Systems Research (CESR) at Tennessee Tech University invites applications for a Professional Support Postdoctoral Research Associate.

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must hold an earned doctorate in Electrical Engineering. Ph.D. must not have been received earlier than three (3) years prior to start date. Candidates should be highly self-motivated and have sound knowledge and research background in electric power engineering. Additional requirements are skills in power system modeling and simulation in Matlab/Simulink and/or other related modeling environment, and hands-on practical laboratory experience in power engineering. It is preferable that the candidate has had some involvement in preparing research proposals. The candidate must have good professional communication skills.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
The successful applicant will be supporting the faculty supervisor for research activities in the technical areas of renewable energy distributed generation systems on the anticipated DOE project on Smart Grid Research and wide-area power system monitoring and control. Duties include performing innovative research required by the supervisor related to above technical areas, including modeling and simulation and laboratory experiments; preparing technical reports; supporting the faculty supervisor in preparing (1) technical papers for publication in professional conferences and journals; (2) proposals for external research funding. This position is under the supervision of Dr. Wenzhong David Gao.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:
$42,000 annually. Benefits include the accumulation of two vacation days per month and one sick leave day per month, and thirteen (13) University holidays. Other benefits include medical and life insurance (shared cost with the University), retirement, optional 401k, and educational benefits.
