[Australia][New Zealand] The 2009 Anita Borg Scholarship in Technology for Women
As part of Google’s ongoing commitment to furthering Anita’s vision, we are pleased to announce the 2009 Google Australia and New Zealand Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship. Through the scholarship, we aim to encourage women to excel in computing and technology, and become active role models and leaders.
Scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of candidates’ academic background and demonstrated leadership. A group of female undergraduate and graduate student finalists will be chosen from the applicant pool. Each scholar recipient will receive a $5,000 scholarship towards the 2010 academic year. In addition all finalists and scholarship recipients will be invited to an expenses-paid networking retreat to be held at Google’s Sydney Engineering centre in September.
Who can apply?
Applicants must satisfy all of the following criteria to be eligible:

How do I apply?
Students will have access an online application starting on Wednesday, April 1, 2009. Please submit your completed application and all supporting documents no later than Friday, June 5, 2009. You may access your application as many times as you would like to make edits, save drafts, and finally submit. The online application tool will let you know what supplemental documents are needed. Once submitted, your application cannot be modified.
Is it mandatory that I fill out the online application form?
Yes. Your application will not be complete until you submit the completed online form. This information will be our main resource for providing updates on your application status.
Can international students apply for the scholarship?
Yes. If you are currently studying at an Australian or New Zealand University and meet our criteria for scholarship eligibility, you can apply regardless of your citizenship.
Do I need to send an official copy of transcripts?
If you cannot obtain an official transcript from your school before the deadline, you can send an unofficial transcript. However, we will require all finalists to provide an official transcript in due course.
What characterises an official copy of transcripts?
Official transcripts are documents that are authorised and issued by your university and demonstrate your academic performance. The official transcript should include an account of your grades and an explanation of the grading scale at your university.
Do I need to submit the recommendation letters with my online application?
The Google Scholarships team accepts reference letters through our online scholarship application, only. You will be asked for the relevant information when you complete the online application. Please include the name and contact information for each of your references when you complete the online application. Each contact you enter will receive an email from Google, with instructions on to submit their letter electronically. Please do not send us letters.
Can I send my application packet by regular mail?
Unfortunately not. All supporting documents must be submitted in electronic format through the online application form.
How will I know if my application has been received?
We will send you an email notification within ten days of the submission deadline.
Can men apply?
No. This scholarship is dedicated to supporting women in technology. We hope to expand our scholarship program in the future.
How do I apply for an internship?
Scholarship applications are entirely independent of career opportunities at Google. If you are interested in internship or full time graduate positions at Google, please apply separately on other pages of this website.
I’m undertaking my bachelors/postgraduate degree at a polytechnic or institute of technology. Although it is not called an university, am I still eligible to apply?
If your polytechnic or institute of technology awards an university equivalent three year bachelors or postgraduate degree, you can certainly apply if you meet the other eligibility criteria.
